My Journey Building Shear Grace One Step at a Time

When I first started dreaming about Shear Grace, I pictured doing things in a very specific order. I imagined enrolling right away in an official grooming program, learning step-by-step in a classroom setting, and following the traditional path into the grooming world.

But sometimes life has other plans.

As a wife and mom, there are seasons where family needs come first. Responsibilities at home can shift priorities and timelines in ways we didn’t expect. For a while, I wondered if that meant I had to put this dream on hold.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized something important: learning doesn’t only happen inside a classroom.

Instead of waiting for the “perfect time,” I decided to keep moving forward in the ways I could right now. Over the past year, I’ve spent hundreds of hours watching grooming tutorials, studying techniques from experienced groomers, and reading books to better understand coat types, skin care, tools, and proper handling.

Every video watched, every page read, and every bit of practice is another step forward.

One of the things I’m discovering is that grooming is truly a craft that never stops evolving. Even groomers who have been working with dogs for twenty years will tell you they are still learning. New techniques develop. New tools come out. And every dog teaches you something different.

That realization has been freeing.

It means the journey isn’t about reaching a point where you “know everything.” It’s about committing to always keep learning and improving so you can care for dogs in the best way possible.

My path into grooming may look a little different than what I originally imagined, but that doesn’t make it any less meaningful. In some ways, it has made the journey even more intentional. Every hour spent studying and practicing is a choice to keep building toward the future I see for Shear Grace.

No matter where this journey leads, I know one thing for certain: there will always be something new to learn, a skill to refine, or a better way to serve the dogs placed in my care.

For now, I’m simply taking it one step at a time—and trusting that each step is helping build the foundation for what Shear Grace will, GOD willing, become.
